About Us
First Christian Church was founded in 1909 by the Christian Women's Board of Mission. The mission board started a school in Overton County to serve an underserved area of Appalachia and the congregation was started by the school teachers who were all members of the Christian Church. What we love about our church is our freedom to pursue Jesus and discuss what that looks like without judgment. We love the openness of our church and take pride at being the known as "the church that'll take anybody." Most importantly, we love that our church takes seriously the call to follow Jesus without being dogmatic and exclusionary.
