Next Gen Pastor
Intro Video to The Journey Church – https://vimeo.com/721885106/4e22dadff9
The Next Gen Pastor will oversee Middle School (7th-8th grades), High School (9th-12th grades), college students, and young adults here at The Journey Church. They will work within The Journey’s coaching model to develop adult and student leaders with oversight of volunteers to help students take their next steps towards Jesus. This role includes weekly gatherings, small groups, discipleship, trips, community service, other activities and events, and possibly being a part of our overall teaching team. The ideal candidate will be a coachable leader who can grow this ministry by building a team of leaders to care for others.
The Journey Church, in Springfield, is located in Northern Virginia (NOVA), just 12 miles southwest of the Capital District of Washington, DC. With the history of Old Town Alexandria, the modern sites of National Harbor, the best museums in the nation around the National Mall, not to mention all the local sports teams (Capitals, Commanders, DC United, Mystics, Nationals, and Wizards), there is always something to do nearby. Beaches are 3 hours away, with the Blue Ridge Mountains looming less than 2 hours away. And if you have kids? The Fairfax County School System is one of the biggest in the country, but also one of the best, and the job market here continues to grow. This is a great place to live and to grow a family.
The Journey Church has been a growing, healthy church for 50 years. The people who attend The Journey are young with an average age of around 37 years old. They are ethnically diverse, coming from many different nationalities. Although The Journey’s history is with the Restoration Movement of churches, people who attend come from all different types of backgrounds. Many in the church work with federal government agencies and they have a large contingent of military.
Pre-COVID, The Journey was averaging over 700 people in three services with over 200 of that total being children in their Journey Kids ministry. Currently, The Journey is averaging almost 600 people with about 25% still joining us online weekly.
The Lead Pastor, Chad Simpkins, has been at The Journey for six years. He emphasizes leadership development through coaching leaders and ensuring the staff models health for our church. The current staff of 9 is a mixture of full and part-time positions, making for an engaging, team-oriented culture.
