We are seeking a Director of Children’s Ministries to plan, coordinate, and lead ministries related to our children (birth to fifth grade) and their families, including weekly Sunday morning and afternoon ministries, annual programs such as Vacation Bible School and Kids Camp, and supervising our part-time childcare workers. The Director of Children’s Ministries works closely with other staff to facilitate intergenerational ministry opportunities and an integrated approach to children’s ministry.

Responsibilities and Duties

The responsibilities of the Director of Children’s Ministries include, but are not limited to:

  • Partners with the Children’s Council and other laity to provide dynamic and engaging ministry opportunities for children (birth to fifth grade) and their parents
  • Plans, coordinates, and leads Sunday morning and afternoon children’s ministry programs, including Sunday school classes, children’s time during 11:00 am worship, and afternoon Kid’s

  • Plans, coordinates, and leads special ministry programs, including seasonal celebrations and annual programs such as Vacation Bible School and Kids Camp
  • Recruits, equips, and manages volunteers to lead and support children’s ministry programs
  • Selects appropriate curriculum, resources, and materials
  • Supervises part-time childcare providers; assists with hiring childcare providers as needed
  • Collaborates and coordinates with other staff and ministry areas, including the Reveille Weekday School and children’s music, providing an integrated approach to children’s ministry
  • Supports the ministries and mission of the church and forms positive relationships with church staff, members, and volunteers
  • May be required to attend additional evening or weekend meetings or events
  • Performs other duties as assigned and as needs arise and the church evolves and changes

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Experience leading ministries for children and families required
  • Articulates an authentic trust in God and belief that the ministry is his or her calling
  • Sound knowledge of scripture and United Methodist/Protestant theology
  • Behavior that is in alignment with Christian beliefs, practices, and a healthy relationship with God, with regular practice of spiritual disciplines
  • Proven history of integrity, authenticity, and dependability, with a work ethic that consistently produces quality results
  • Demonstrated leadership, administrative, and management skills
  • Ability to develop working teams and equip persons for discipleship and ministry, exhibiting love, compassion, and a collegial approach
  • Ability to work across generational lines, and recruit, train, and manage volunteers

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage conflict for healthy resolution
  • Good time management skills to maintain a healthy balance between self, family, and work
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, social media, email marketing, and other web-based tools for communication, research, and ministry management

Accountability

The Director of Children’s Ministries is supervised by the Lead Pastor and subject to the jurisdiction of
the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.

Physical Demands

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the described essential functions. While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb stairs (the offices of Reveille United Methodist Church are located in a historic four-story building without an elevator) or balance, and to stoop, kneel, and lift at least 20 pounds to move equipment and materials. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for use of computer and ability to read materials related to the position.

A successful background check is required prior to hire.

This is an exempt, salaried position. Reveille UMC welcomes applications from candidates seeking full-time or part-time employment. Compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and work schedule. Benefits include a 403(b) retirement plan with up to a 6% match and continuing education support.
