Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church (CHPC) in Kingsport, TN seeks a part-time Director of Music to lead and coordinate the Worship Music Ministry alongside other staff and lay leaders. This person will incorporate a diversity of music styles and songs as they seek to engage individuals of all ages to participate in meaningful ways. This position is accountable to the Head of Staff and will work closely with the Worship and Music Ministry Team.

• Shows a high degree of musicianship including proficiency in sight reading both printed scores and lead/chord sheets.

• Collaborates effectively with the pastor and other musical staff.
• Versatile, flexible and can adapt to changing priorities as needed.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

The Director of Music is responsible to work according to the policies and procedures established by the Session and Head of Staff. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Works closely with the pastor in the selection of appropriate music for worship.
• Develops, communicates, and implements worship plans in collaboration with the Pastor, including song suggestion, music liturgy, logistics, transitions, and creative expressions.
• Rehearses with multiple volunteer choirs/teams/musicians of adults, youth and children who participate in or lead ministries.
• Develops a richer style of worship which integrates both modern and traditional elements. This includes conducting the chancel choir and coordinating with the choir, praise band and a variety of instrumentalists and ensembles.
• Maintains the music library by identifying new songs, both modern and traditional, that are consistent with our theology and mission.
• Leads music for special services such as funerals, weddings, and other liturgical services as requested. Coordinates other music staff as needed to support these services.
