KU Campus Christians is seeking a Campus Ministry Director. KU Campus Christians is a campus ministry that has ministered to the Lawrence campus for over 50 years. The ministry has a house right across the street from the campus which is utilized for ministry events and housing for up to eight students. The Campus Ministry Director at KU Campus Christians will provide leadership to the ministry, creating and fostering a spiritually vibrant and Christ-centered community for students. This role is responsible for planning and executing evangelistic and discipleship activities, helping students successfully transition from high school to college, identifying and developing student leaders, and integrating faith into all aspects of student life. The Director will provide pastoral care, create opportunities for spiritual formation, and serve as the house director for the KUCC house.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Administration
    • Lead and oversee all aspects of campus ministry, including worship services, retreats, study groups, faith formation, and other spiritual programs.
    • Develop and implement strategies for student engagement in ministry programs, including regular communication, outreach efforts, and event planning.
      Recruit, train, and mentor student leaders and ministry volunteers, fostering a leadership culture among students.
    • Regular communication with the Board. Written report to present at quarterly board meetings with reports of current activities, future plans and priorities.
    • Work alongside the Treasurer and Board Members to manage the finances of the ministry. These include collecting mail, helping with donations and donor relations, and paying bills.
    • Budget planning and maintaining the budget, and fundraising for campus ministry will be done with collaboration of the Board.
    • Write and distribute regular newsletters to donors and supporters of the ministry.
    • Visit supporting churches and involve students in supporting those ministries
  •  Spiritual Formation & Pastoral Care
    • Provide spiritual guidance, counseling, and pastoral care to students.
    • Offer spiritual formation opportunities such as retreats, service projects, and educational workshops on faith and spiritual growth.
    • Ensure the availability of sacramental services (e.g., Communion and Baptism) for students.
  • Community Engagement & Collaboration
    • Foster collaboration with other campus departments and student organizations to integrate faith-based perspectives into university life.
    • Cultivate relationships with local faith communities and ministry leaders to support the spiritual needs of students and establish a presence within the broader community.
    • Visit supporting churches and involve students in supporting those ministries.
    • Maintain a relationship with KU Department of Student Affairs by participating in the Kansas University Religious Advisors group (KURA).
    • Participating in Student Organization recruiting events offered via the Student Involvement and Leadership Center.
    • Maintaining KU CC’s Student Organization status by filing required reports.
  • Program Development & Assessment
    • Learn &understand age-stage issues, staying current by reading books, articles and researching the issues the students are encountering on campus and the world.
    • Design and implement innovative ministry programs that meet the needs and interests of a diverse student population.
    • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of ministry programs and events, using feedback to adjust strategies.
  • Campus House and Community Living
    • Oversee the campus house and student renters. Oversee the assignment of the cleaning and household duties among the renters.
    • Collect rent and coordinate with the Board for students that might fall behind in their monthly obligations.
    • Along with help from the Board, coordinate professional services to the house when needed.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Board

Qualifications:

  • Ability to adhere to the values and characteristics of a church leader/Deacon as described in 1 Timothy 3.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Ministry, Religious Studies, or a related field (required).
  • Ordained minister from an Evangelical based church or vocation (preferred).
  • Experience in campus ministry, higher education, or pastoral care (required).
  • Strong understanding of the needs of college students and the ability to adapt ministry approaches to a diverse, multicultural campus environment.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and counseling skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and priorities.

Time Requirements:

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours as required by ministry programming and special events.
  • Occasional travel for retreats, conferences, and external ministry collaborations.
